Repairing Your Teeth

Restorative dental treatments in Islington

As you would expect at Open Dental, we use the best available materials and techniques to repair and restore your teeth and provide you with guarantees for your care.

We use CARISOLV too to remove decay without the need to “drill” into teeth, then being able to restore with the most up to date techniques such as Sonicfill.

All is not lost, when a tooth is badly broken down or diseased, rather than extract the tooth we will endeavour to treat it endodontically or Root Canal Treatment, again using the very latest of techniques.

We use the best materials
to repair teeth that last.

Whether you need a filling, a root canal or a crown, we use proven techniques and the best available materials — and we take the time to explain every option before any work begins.

Three Treatment Pathways

Find the right treatment
for your tooth

Every damaged tooth is different. Here are the three repair pathways we offer — with full explanations of what each involves.

Pathway 01

Endodontics
Root canal treatment

When decay or damage reaches the nerve inside a tooth, endodontic treatment removes the infection, saves the tooth and eliminates the pain. Modern techniques make root canal treatment far more comfortable than its reputation suggests.

Restoration
Fillings, inlays & onlays

When decay or damage is caught at an earlier stage, a restoration rebuilds the tooth directly. We use tooth-coloured composite and ceramic materials that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth — no metal, no compromise on appearance.

  • Composite (tooth-coloured) fillings
  • SonicFill composite restorations
  • Ceramic inlays and onlays

Pathway 03

Crowns & Veneers
Full coverage restorations

When a tooth is too heavily damaged for a filling, or when you want to change the appearance of teeth that are discoloured, worn or misshapen, crowns and veneers provide a durable, natural-looking full coverage solution.

  • Emax ceramic crowns
  • Zirconia crowns
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Composite veneers

Which treatment do I need?

Not sure where to start? Match your situation below — your dentist will confirm the right approach at your appointment.

If you have…

Toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold, or a swollen gum

These are often signs that decay or damage has reached the nerve inside the tooth. Endodontic treatment removes the infection and saves the tooth; without extraction.

If you have…

A decayed, chipped or cracked tooth; caught at an early stage

When enough healthy tooth structure remains, a direct restoration rebuilds the tooth in a single appointment using tooth; coloured composite or ceramic materials.

If you have…

A heavily damaged tooth, or teeth you'd like to improve in appearance

When a tooth is too compromised for a filling, or you want to change the look of discoloured or worn teeth, a crown or veneer provides durable full coverage.

This depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains and whether the nerve is affected. A small to moderate cavity typically needs a filling or inlay. A heavily broken-down tooth often needs a crown. Pain, sensitivity to heat or cold, or swelling usually indicates the nerve is involved and endodontic treatment may be needed. Your dentist will assess and advise at your appointment.
Root canal treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and is far more comfortable than its reputation suggests. Most patients are surprised by how straightforward it feels during the procedure. There may be some mild tenderness in the days after, easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
A crown covers the entire visible tooth and is used when significant structure has been lost or the tooth has been root-treated. A veneer covers only the front surface of a tooth and is typically used for cosmetic improvement of front teeth — changing colour, shape or minor alignment. Your dentist will recommend the right option based on your specific situation.
Yes — we use tooth-coloured composite and ceramic materials that are matched to the shade of your surrounding teeth. We do not use metal or amalgam fillings. Emax and zirconia crowns in particular are highly aesthetic and indistinguishable from natural teeth in most cases.
